Home away from home....

Today we are supposed to write about our first home away from the parental units...
Thinking about what to write in this post is hard.
....like my head hurts hard.
I have lived in a lot of places....

A LOT.

When I left my parents house at 17, to go to college, I had no idea what was ahead of me.

Between then (1998) and now....

I have lived in 4 different states (MA, MD, DE, NY)

2 dorm rooms

2 townhouse

3 apts (Buffalo, Amherst, Elmwood village)

4 houses (1 MA,2 DE, 1 NY)
and.....

are you ready?

28 roomates..... 28

My head hurts......too much math
What have i learned from all of these different places?
Apparently I cannot live in the same place for more than 1 year...
I'm super good at packing...and unpacking...
I can rent a killer moving truck...
and
I have racked up like $9,000,000 in change of address fees.
:)

Step by step....literally...

I have many skills...many unique skills i feel.

I can catch, handle and wash an Eagle
I can make a mean cupcake
I can maneuver the heck out of a chainsaw.

But let's get to the skill i find most helpful everyday. I am awsome at buying cool shoes. i love shoes and they love me in return. I pride myself in finding sweet and unique shoes for all occassions and for decent prices. Now i know the assignment was to walk you step by step through my skill...but i'm not sure i'm ready to give up my secrets. But I will pass along to those who are dedicated to the love of the shoe, some great websites i frequent.

In no particular order:

Please take your time...thats the key to successfully finding the sweetest shoe ever. These sites can be very overwhelming but be patient and only do a little at a time, trust me you will find your perfect shoe. Sometimes there is nothing more important in life than an awsome pair of shoes. :)

MMMMmmmmmmm....

I love food.

I love all kinds of food.

My favorite food is the food i can't get all the time. Seasonal food if you will. In random order these are the things i most look forward to all year.

March - Shamrock shake and cornedbeef and cabbage...not necessarily together

Summer - chocolate/vanilla custard twist with chocolate sprinkles

October - Apple cider and cinnamon strusel cake for my b-day...again not together

November - Thanksgiving dinner (Dark meat, mashed potatos, gramas stuffing and gramas green bean cassarole)

December - christmas cookies

Off the top of my head these are my favorite foods. Since i am deprived of these for the majority of the year...i feel that is why i crave them the most.

Dammit now i'm really hungry...let's see...according to my list...i better go get me some corned beef and a shamrock shake. :)

Let the games begin!

Here we are....Bufblopofo '09!!!! WEEEE!!!! What a good day to start it's 3-14...pi day! ok no more nerdy. Ok today i am supossed to write about 3 big things going on with me right now.

I will go on cronological order:

1. We got a Wii!!! Dan has been bugging me and bugging me and bugggggging me to get one. It's not that i didn't want one but it really just hasn't been in our budget. Everytime we go into a store Dan feels it is a sign from God if they have it in stock that we need to buy it. The final straw was last weekend when we were at Target and they had a bunch in stock. I swear we stood in front of the thing for 20 minutes weighing the pros and cons of getting it. I was about to give my final veto, when a 70 yr old gentleman approached us. He noticed our hesitation and boldly buttted in by saying...."It's completely worth it." I looked at he man....as said..he was about 70...long grey hair in a low ponytail....trucker hat...and holding about 16 bags of twizzlers. Dan responded to the man asking what he thought about the wii, and the man continued with a small dissertation about how much fun it is and how he is so glad he got it about a year and a half ago. Oh God.....cue the rolling commentary. Do I.....say thank you for the advice old guy and walk out of the store pretending to be a responsible adult....or listen to the old guy who is obviously cooler than I am and go home and have infinite fun? As we got into the car i told Dan he should thank the old guy for coming a long. It's the reason we bought the Wii....i feel like i should have some twizzlers in his honor. :) PS.....it's the best toy EVER!!!!!

2. I am coming up on the end of my 2 year masters degree. Thank you jesus! I have worked my arse off for the last year and a half going to school full time and putting in about 20 hours of work a week. Needless to say, i am ready to be done. In May I will graduate with my masters in Deaf Education with a certificaiton to teach children from birth to 21. I will also have my certification to teach Biology in grades 7-12. This is an ENORMOUS career change for me and i'm antsy to finish this semester so i can get started! Cross your fingers though, it a tough job market for teachers right now. Wish me luck, i think i'm gonna need it. :)

3. Not that this topic deserves to be #3 but as I said i wanted to go in order of events...and why not save the best for last. I'm getting married in less than 7 Months...21o days to be exact. We have all the big stuff done. Now we are ironing out the little stuff. I can't wait. It is going to be a sweet ass party! My current dilema is the flavor of frosting for the cakes. I'm not a huge fan of buttercream.....Any thoughts? WEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

There you have it the first Bufblopofo post of '09. Can't wait to see what everyone else has goign on!

Katie...errrr Maeve...doesn't share food!

I was watching the girls the other day and decided I needed a snack. Knowing Maeve i made sure to bring her a snack too. It was baked cheetos for me and goldfish for maeve. I brought out the little cup of goodies and made sure it was clear that the goldfish were for her and the cheetos for me. We both went on our way and watched diego with our said snacks until I decided i wanted a goldfish. I asked Maeve if i could have one....she sweetly nodded probably thinking "she won't really do it". Sure enough I took a goldfish out of our community bowl and put it in my mouth. This next few seconds was in slow motion. Maeve went into blind rage. She initially screamed "noooooo" and sure as shit she thrust her hand into my mouth. INTO MY MOUTH! I'm not sure if she was trying to save the soldier or if she was just so mad that I ate one of her goldfish she wanted it back. Either way I was so surprised that she did that i immediatly broke out in laughter. Mistake number 2 on my part. Maeve got piiiiiissedd. This was no laughing matter. She starred my down with a look of death. I quickly compsed myself and told her I was very sorry and offered her one of my snacks. There was a period of akward silence between us as we watched the end of Diego. We both finished our snacks and went about the rest of our day together.

I have completely learned my lesson and I completely understand where she is coming from. It is now very clear that Katie AND Maeve don't share food. Just an FYI.

PS...yes that is a chip clip in her hair....she did it all by herself. :)

Why am I annoyed?...

It's Friday night....

Here I sit in my new living room.....

I am entering the last week of classes of my Grad school career...

I'm sitting on the couch pounding away at 1 of 7 projects due next week.....

Emeril came on TV...

I don't really care for Emeril....

I'm putting up with it...

I'm too lazy to get up to get the remote to change it....

He just put garlic into the pan....

The audience exploded with applause, whistling and general craziness....

What did i miss?

I'm still sitting here...

He's cooking his second dish of the night...

He has mentioned garlic 4 times...

The audience exploded with excitement...

EVERY...

SINGLE...

TIME...

I don't know why i'm so annoyed by these people's reaction to the garlic....

Hold on...

Let's perform an experiement...

OREGANO!

Did you pee yourself with excitment?

Stupid remote across the room......

Somebody's gettin' Married!!

I'm a little late on the posting of the engagment but it's a long one. I just wanted to make sure I got it right. :)

Ready.......GO!!!!

We were on vacation in Marble Head Ohio with Dan's family. On our first day there, Dan started the day off with a nice boat ride, we went and got a couples massage and were going to round out the evening with dinner at one of the local wineries. You would think after all this goodness I would have a clue. Nope...not even one.

We had dinner reservations at the winery 4pm (also should have been a clue, what are we 80 eating at 4pm?). We arrived at ten minutes to 4. Dan "decides" we should do wine tasting before dinner. Wine tasting in a matter of 10 minutes is not my idea of wine tasting but i humor him and go a long with the decision. Did i mention i was starving, because i was saving myself for a nice 4pm meal. We wine tasted in record speed. Why? #1 We had dinner reservations in 10 minutes, #2 I hadn't had anything to eat since breakfast and full blown wine tasting would have made me a stumbling moron and #3 I-was-STARVING!

I moved along the tasting and got us all wrapped up and ready to go in time for our dinner reservation. I decided i liked 3 of the wines we tasted and purchased them. The nice man behind the desk told me i couldn't take my bottles into the dining room. Merrrrrrr....fine. I moved things right a long and grabbed Dan's keys and took the wine out to the car.

Meanwhile.....Dan and John (guy who worked there) took this opportunity to run down to the wine cellar and set up the champagne and video camera for the proposal.

I return to the restaurant lobby to find Dan and John coming out from the staff only area...clue #2 i failed to pick up on. John proceeds to tell me that our table was not ready yet and if we were interested we could go on a short wine tour. Cue me looking into their dining room and seeing every...single....table....OPEN. At this point I am not thinking that this is a shady situation...i was thinking....THERE IS NO ONE IN THERE WHY CAN'T WE EAT NOW. I am one classy broad who apparently can think of nothing else but food. Awsome.

Needless to say I agreed to the tour. John led us into the kitchen past the staff bathrooms and down a sketchy set of basement stairs. Where in God's name are we GOING! John leads us into a storage room...a STORAGE room...and claims he forgot his "tour script". Again...i'm still not seeing the shadiness...i'm just annoyed we now have to wait longer to eat. (i think i need a support group) :)

Dan and I wander into the next room, which by the way is beautiful. It is a huge room with stone walls and an incredible stone ceiling. The lighting was low and romantic and guess what I still didn't get it. I wandered over to what looked to be a well in the ground with pretty lighting around it. I look down and there are amazing racks full of ancient wine bottles. Very cool. I was completely oblivious to the table 6 ft from me with champagne, candles and champagne flutes. OBLIVIOUS. Dan clearly had enough of me being oblivous and pointed out the table to me. I did not give it a second thought and assumed it was set up for an event later or was just part of the tour. Dan requests I take a closer look at the table. I humor him....and my eyes stumble upon the champagne flutes....

There it was plain as day, "Katie and Dan - August 3, 2008"

**Click**

In my confused daze i turn to Dan who is already on his knee reaching for the ring in his pocket. I remember looking at him and i remember him trying to put the ring on my finger, but i heard not a word he said....that voice in my head again. "HE'S ASKING YOU TO MARRY HIM!!!!!" The best part...Dan doesn't remember what he said either. I do remember saying yes, and i remember chugging the glass of champagne Dan handed me. I cried my face off and cursed Dan when he told me he was getting it all on film. We ventured up to the dining room and guess what....i wasn't hungry anymore. :)

Here's the video if you choose to see my obliviousness and my blubbering. WEE!!!
Feel free to fast forward the empty room from 1:45-3:40. It was a very echoy room so you can't really hear too much but there are a few choice things you can hear. Fun stuff!!!

PS....Dan has been planning this since Februrary. He may or may not be my favorite person. :)
