Lebanon oil spill

I know this happened a few months ago but there is some interesting footage and pictures of the bombing of the fuel tanks and the oil spill that occured because of it.

Up to 15,000 metric tonnes of heavy fuel oil spilled into the Mediterranean when Lebanon's Jiyyeh power plant was bombed in mid-July by the Israeli military.

This video is a little unecessarily dramatic but it has some really good footage of the oil impacts. There is a great part at the end that shows what happens when oil becomes submerged and ends up on the ocean floor.

And finally some great pics and descriptions of the oil conditions they are dealing with.

Sorry for the not so happy post today, just came across this stuff and wanted to share. We would not respond to this spill because of the political and economic instability of Lebanon right now. The conditions of the spill itself are very similar to some spills we have responded to. Yucky stuff!

You know, after watching the part showing the ocean floor, I find myself wanting a hot fudge sundae.

Maybe a fish fry to start.

Being one of the people working on the ground, I can say it is a disaster that will impact Lebanon's marine environment for decades.

If Exxon Mobil isn't paying your salary, I hope they are at least putting you in their 401(k)!
You are an amazing person, doing work for which we we should all be thanking you for generations.
