Ode to Mikey

Mikey is another year older....and i feel it is my duty to share some candid Mikey moments that truly represent the true mikey. ENJOY!!!!!!
Ahhhh...2003....a good year

I may be drunk, but Mikey does not waste an opportunity to make the picture a tad bit more exciting! It's a good thing cause i wasn't feeling this picture. :)

Shower chin-ups....a must in every hotel

Mikey always follows direction and looks at the camera...Lisa and I are too good for that.

The king his queen and the sheik of the bathroom.

As far as i am concerned the SCARIEST halloween costumes ever!

Ahhhh...a classic pastime of mine and mikeys....seeing what new objects we can get stuck to our noses....mikey is very good...i am still an amateur

Leave it to mikey to find the real leprechauns.

Never without a pen in his pocket....even at the dessert table

Practicing his fatherly skills...nice work

RAWR!!!!

A man of all men!

And whats a blog post without this face.....and low and behold...Mikey is her father. What a coincidence...this blog is about Mikey!!!!!

Happy Bird-turd brother-in-law!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One more week...

...until christmas that is....oh well, and seeing this cutie pants too. :)

Mrs. Carr wanted a picture of Maeve with the Turkey on Thanksgiving. This photo is right after Maeve threw-up on the table. Classic!

She's not too sure about this turkey thing...and why she's lying on the table next to it.

Lisa is doing a brilliant job of hiding behind the baby..nice work. Who put the enormous bottle of wine next to the 4 month old. Oh yeah...that would be us.

Maeve is not impressed by A. Katie's shenanagans.

Maeve and I got to spend the day together before i had to come back to DE. We didn't change out of our PJ's the whole day!!!!

We watched TV and slept off our Thanksgiving meals.

This is Maeve's don't talk to me face....i can't wait to mush it!

WATER YOUR TREE!!!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE water your tree...over water your tree! I got this in an e-mail this morning, and i have actually seen it live and in person under a controlled situation. It was super scary!!!! God knows i love me some real christmas tree, but lets keep all things related to fire away from the tree.

This service announcement is brought to you by your friendly neighborhood Birdnerd. :)

A Christmas Tree Fireproof Recipe from Barnes Evergreens. This fireproofing recipe will help your tree hold up to seven times its normal weight in water. To begin, strip 3 inches of bark off the butt of the tree trunk, so the solution can enter the sides as well as the bottom. In a separate container, mix the following ingredients:

2 qts. hot water
1pt. Karo syrup
2 oz. liquid bleach
Pinch Epsom salts
1/2 tsp. Borax
6 qts. boiling water

It's important to add the mixture to the Christmas tree stand - the hotter the better the initial time. (Breaking the cold sap down so the solution can work towards the top of the tree is important.) The remaining solution can be added cold as needed. After a few days, cut a twig off to test. See if a match will burn the needles.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!

Lebanon oil spill

I know this happened a few months ago but there is some interesting footage and pictures of the bombing of the fuel tanks and the oil spill that occured because of it.

Up to 15,000 metric tonnes of heavy fuel oil spilled into the Mediterranean when Lebanon's Jiyyeh power plant was bombed in mid-July by the Israeli military.

This video is a little unecessarily dramatic but it has some really good footage of the oil impacts. There is a great part at the end that shows what happens when oil becomes submerged and ends up on the ocean floor.

And finally some great pics and descriptions of the oil conditions they are dealing with.

Sorry for the not so happy post today, just came across this stuff and wanted to share. We would not respond to this spill because of the political and economic instability of Lebanon right now. The conditions of the spill itself are very similar to some spills we have responded to. Yucky stuff!

This makes mondays a little better...

This makes me laugh...Hopefully i will be getting things like this from maeve ina few years...cause damn it's funny!

Monday monday......

Did i ever mention how much i'm not a fan of monday's. Well i'm not, it means the weekend is over. It means i have to get up early. It means i actually have to be productive. So needless to say I am a fan of the weekend. Wanna know what makes weekends un-fun (totally a word)? Working on sunday. Not only does it cut your weekend short but it's not even the start of your work week because the next day is MONDAY!!! And we all know how i feel about monday. Ok introduction over.

I had to work yesterday (sunday). I had a very important meeting to attend that was going to take all of my afternoon. So being the responsible person that I am I got up ontime, got ready and was out the door to be to work a whole HOUR early to prepare for the meeting. Ok who's proud so far....

Yesterday was a gorgeous day! Feeling good i walk outside to my car, and low and behold I have a flat tire. (Insert explatives here) This situation does not concern me much but it has now put me in a foul mood. I go back inside, call work and tell them the situation and that i should still be ontime but i'll call if things change. I change my clothes and go back out to tackle the tire. No biggie, once you have changed a tire it's very self explanitory. I have had my car for 2 years and this is the first time i have had to change my tire. Pretty good i think.

Not to be sexist but if i need to change a tire i am always nervous a guy is going to stop and ask me if i need assistance. I understand they are just being nice, well most of the time, but i feel weird saying no i'm fine...or basically leave me alone, i don't need your stinkin help. I was very lucky. I was in my own lot at my house and it's not a very high traffic area, so i was not concerned. I do have to say that I don't live in the most ideal of neighborhoods. It does not make me uncomfortable to live there but let's just say it's not "ideal". ANYWHOOOO...I'm tooling along changing the tire and not once, not twice, but THREE times cars have driven by and honked. Honked? I don't get it....were they saying "Look at you changin a tire...Way to go!" Or were they saying "You look ridiculous....Good luck with that one!". I did not stop them to ask their purpose but i found it odd none the less. The kicker of it all was that my 3rd and final honk was a school bus. A SCHOOLBUS? Number one...it's 11am on a sunday morning. Are you out on your weekly schoolbus nice sunday mornin drive? Goin to church? Couldn't afford the used chevy suburban and just upgraded to a school bus, or are you one of THOSE families. Regardless, it made me chuckle... A LOT! Needless to say the tire changing went smoothly and my donut lasted through this morning when i dropped it off to be fixed.

Wanna know what tops off this experience? My conversation with my sister this morning after i dropped off my car.

L: Whas up...just feedin the maevinator...got you on speaker phone
K: Word word...just dropped off my car i had a flat tire
L: Oh no what happened
K: got a big nail in it so i changed it and just dropped it off to be fixed
L: YOU CHANGED IT?!
K: Yes..it's not rocket science
L: Why didn't you call AAA, thats why you have it
K: Thing one i don't have AAA, and 2 why call them and wait 2 hrs when i can fix the problem in 15 min by myself
L: Well then why do I have AAA?
K: for when you lock your keys in the car...car accident...breakdown...
L: Oh....how did you know how to change a tire?
K: From being on my own for 8 years?
L: You have your own tools?
K: For what?
L: Changing your tire?
K: Lisa, they are in your car already
L: Your car comes with the tools?!?!?
K: Yes and so does yours.
L: Wow! The tire too??? Are the directions in the manual?
K: Yes but i would advise you to just call AAA Lisa...maybe i can teach you when i'm home next
L: Yeah let's have a tutorial!

So yeah needless to say, don't worry everyone, I will make sure Lisa gets a full tutorial on tire changing when i'm home next. Lis, Maybe you should readup on it in the manual first and then we can tackle the hands on portion at a later date. :) Good stuff people....good stuff.

Optical illusion

This is a picture taken directly above these camels in the desert at sunset. It is considered one of the best pictures of the year. Look closely. ...The camels are the little white lines in the picture. The black you see are just the shadows!!

How cool is that?!

Jigga What?

This is UN-BELIEVABLE! Being able to hand-feed hummingbirds is equivalent to being able to walk on water in my book. The patience and skill involved in this is unreal. Maybe next time this woman decides to photo document this event she will not wear her nightgown. I think she needs to have a little talkin to. :)

They are landing on her hand!!!!!!!!!!!

Craziness!

I'm full of excuses....

I'm sorry i suck at blogging lately. I would LOVE to blame it on the fact that i have been moving and there is mass chaos. But let's be honost...i got DVR this week. The novelty has not yet worn off, but i promise to keep up on my blogging. :)

I've been meaning to post these pics for a while but forgot they were on my camera.

So Sarah has introduced me to the DE baseball scene. It is a single A league. For all you ruff-buff folks...the Bisons are triple A. Just a little perspective.

AAAAnywho, we have been loyal fans over the summer to the Wilmington Blue Rocks. Yep the Blue Rocks. It must have been very slow day in the team naming department that day. They then had to face the fact that this team needs a mascot......yep a mascot....apparently the obvious was the best they could do....

Funny huh?

Yep....a blue rock

Ps...if i were a child this would be the WORST mascot EVER.

Oh wait..it gets better, i think they realized they dropped the ball with the rock blob. So back to the drawing board....ok how about MR. CELERY!!!!! I-kid-you-not...Mr. Celery appears everytime the home team gets a run. He comes flying out of the dugout and runs around for about 30 seconds. It's surprisingly entertaining. Why you ask? Because it's a guy running around dressed up like a stalk of CELERY!!! Those marketing execs are brilliant, because as an adult...these are the best mascots EVER!!!
